When the Emanate Security Platform (ESP) detects a behavioral anomaly that requires user context, one of the channels used for collecting that user context is Slack. ESP does so by publishing a message via the ESP Slack app installed in your Slack workspace. When the user responds to the message, ESP gets notified via the webhook integration and takes appropriate action.
The following guide will show you how to setup Slack as a user communication channel.
NOTE: Only users with Administrative privileges to your Slack Workspace will be able to complete this integration.
In order to track down the Slack Team ID for your organization's Slack Workspace, you'll need to log in to the Slack app in a web browser. To do so, navigate to app.slack.com and sign in.
From there, you'll be given the option to select your Workspace. When you select the Workspace for your organization, Slack will try to bring you back to the Desktop Client.
Accept or Deny the request and head back to the redirect page in your browser. There you'll find a link allowing you to use Slack in your browser.
Once you've opened the Slack app in your browser, view the URL in your browser's address bar. In the URL you'll see app.slack.com/client/<TEAM_ID>/<CHANNEL_ID>.
Copy the Slack Team ID. It always starts with a T and is followed by a random character string. Share your Slack Team ID with your Emanate Security point of contact.
They will enter it into the ESP product database to ensure the integration is established properly in Step 3.
When you first add a new Slack App to a Slack Workspace, it must be assigned a primary Slack Channel. Currently, this channel will not be used for anything.
While the channel will not be in use, anyone with access to the channel you select will receive a notification that you've added a new Slack App when Step 3 is completed.
Since most teams want to start with some small-scale testing, we recommend setting up a new, private Slack channel before proceeding. You can name it something friendly like "Emanate Security."
Navigate to: https://emanate-slack-web.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/index.html
You'll land on a page allowing you to Add the Emanate Security App to your Slack Workspace.
Click on the Add to Slack button.
This will take you to a page explaining the permissions you are granting to Emanate Security and allowing you to select the channel you created in Step 2.
Select the primary Slack Channel and click on the Allow button.
From here, you should be given a success message. As a member of the private channel you created in Step 2 you'll also receive a Slack notification informing you of the new App installation. Only members of the private channel will receive this notification.
