Short Message Service (SMS)
The Emanate Security Platform supports out-of-band communications via SMS.
Overview
When the Emanate Security Platform (ESP) detects a behavioral anomaly that requires user context, one of the channels used for collecting that user context is SMS. ESP leverages a global communication partner to assist with the delivery and receipt of any communications sent via SMS.
Setup
Since employee SMS is rarely directly controlled by an organization, the setup of these SMS messages is quite different from the setup of your corporate messaging service. Each user must complete their own SMS setup. This is done during the user self-registration process that is a part of the User Self-Registration function.
If a user chooses to use SMS as a communication channel, they will be taken through an SMS validation process. This process will ask the user to enter their phone number and then send a One Time Password (OTP) to link the user's phone number to their Emanate user record.
At this time, ESP will also recommend that users save this number to their contacts. Since this phone number is static, this will ensure the user recognizes alerts being delivered to them from ESP and can respond in a timely manner.
Country Support
ESP will leverage a single 800 number to send this user SMS messages. The 800 number will correspond to the country code in the user's provided phone number.
Currently ESP supports a wide range of country locations for SMS. However, there are a handful of unsupported countries. For a complete list of currently unsupported countries, please contact your Emanate Security point of contact.
